2010 Scholarship Winners

The Keuka Lake Association is pleased to announce that Sarah Shaver, Valerie Mitchell and Matthew Robinson have been selected as the recipients of the Esther N. Wahlig Keuka Lake Watershed scholarship award.

The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who show an interest in the preservation of the aquatic environment and wish to pursue a career in watershed management and/or marine/freshwater biology.

Sarah Shaver (Penn Yan Central School) is studying Marine Biology at the University of Maine. After many family trips to various seas, oceans and aquariums, she wants "to research and discover new and fantastic things about the ocean".

Valerie Mitchell (Bath Central School) is majoring in Wildlife Sciences/Biology at SUNY ESF. She states that "learning about the big outdoors has been her childhood career“ and she wants to further this career by “studying animals and continuing to explore the environment".

Matthew Robinson (Bath Central School) is pursuing a career in Landscape Design & Management at SUNY Delhi and further into Landscape Architecture. He feels his career "would help the environment by preserving and interpreting natural areas and historic landscapes".
